Safety Floor cleaning in Suffolk

We have recently been approached for advice on the cleaning and restoration of safety flooring. A number of commercial business premises and contract cleaners are struggling to keep their floors’ appearance looking good.

It has been found that despite the use of commercial grade cleaning products and equipment, the processes being used are not cutting through the soils and replacement of the flooring looks like the only option which is expensive. On inspection by Rob Reeve of Suffolk Carpet Care, it had been found and confirmed that this type of flooring is simple to restore back to a good finish, however this had been met with some disbelief by potential customers. After further investigation it would appear that despite repeated attempts by in house staff and contract cleaners to restore the flooring the results have been poor, even though they have been using some very strong and corrosive cleaning products.

Because potential customers are wary and have a tendency to disbelieve that Suffolk Carpet Care’s processes can indeed restore safety flooring, Rob likes to carry out a small demonstration on a test area to show what we can achieve with our simple non-toxic agents and safe processes. A demonstration always leaves a client with a smile – we show that they can save the flooring, removing the cost of replacement and the associated downtime from needing to relocate staff and furniture while the flooring is being replaced.

Is my stain free carpet really stain free? It seems to get dirty so quickly. Stain free carpets in Ipswich.

Carpets that are labelled “stain free” normally means those carpets cannot accept further dyes into the fibres. Stain free carpet fibres are normally made from polypropylene, which is an oil derived substance, which tends to attract other oils. 14% of the dirt that comes into a property that is not dry is oily, meaning that it will not vacuum out. This oily dirt will be attracted to the surface of the fibre and quickly bond to it, in turn causing dry dirt and hair to stick to it. This will quickly make the carpet look like it gets dirty very quickly and it will start to look dull in a short space of time.

So does this mean my carpet is actually not stain free?

No – Your carpet will still be stain free, just because it gets dirty doesn’t mean that its stained, it means that professional or the correct cleaning is required to remove this oil in the right way. There is a chemistry and science involved in cleaning these types of fibres correctly without creating further issues such as rapid recoiling. Many homeowners will go by what the manufacturer recommends, using bleaches, etc. to try and deal with stains and spills, but these stains then tend to come back.

What’s actually happening is that after cleaning the fibre still has the bleach residue in it, which is slightly sticky and this will then make everyday dirt stick to that area even quicker. Clean Carpets vs Hard Floors for Allergies

Many people replace carpets with some kind of hard flooring due to having allergies caused by dust and hairs. Allergens such as dust and hair from humans or pets will always be present in any household. Controlling the removal of them will make your home healthier.

Hard floors are easier to vacuum and clean everyday versus carpets, but what happens to the small particles of dirt in between your cleaning? Every time you walk about or shut a door, the airflow will lift these small particles and they then float about in the air, which you may then breathe in. They also lay on horizontal surfaces such as worktops and sofas, meaning that dust is then higher and will be easier to breath in next time a sudden gust of air disturbs it.

Carpets however, are massive filters, trapping dust, dirt and hair in their fibres and causing these allergens to be held down. When carpets are vacuumed the loose hair and dirt is removed and in the meantime, the dirt is not airborne as it would be with a hard floor.

Once a year (as recommended by manufacturers) your carpets should be professionally cleaned by a qualified company to remove the greasy dirt  that builds up in the carpet as it’s going about acting as a filter.

Once a carpet’s filtration is completely clean and free from grease, it will hold dirt and hair much more effectively than it would if the carpet was greasy and dirty, due to it no longer being saturated with soils that prevent the filter from doing its job.

Carpet Stain Removal

If a spillage occurs to your lovely soft carpet, upholstery, rug or leather, the first thing we want to do is clean it up. Did you know that you can seal a stain into a fibre or fabric by not understanding the carpet itself or the spillage?

Fibres and fabrics when manufactured are at the best condition possible and ready to resist soiling and staining with maximum protection.

As these fibres age, they will be less resilient to resist soiling and spills due to abrasion caused by use and excess soil in the fibres. Once a sandpaper effect occurs to these fibres, cleaning and stain removal techniques may not be as successful and chances are higher of permanent damage.

As we are qualified to understand the characteristics of all fibres and constructions, we can give the highest quality end result without taking a chance with stain removal that may make no difference.

Understanding how carpets are manufactured, and how they are dyed makes us very successful when giving expected results. Some carpets are made from polymers and may have dyes introduced before the fibre is made.

This type of fibre can be quite difficult to stain with water based spillages, but exposure to greasy or oily marks may change the fibres colour. Other natural fibres and some synthetic fibres may have been dyed after the fibres were made, and can still accept more dyes under the right circumstance.

Water based spillages may lead to a permanent dye if the fibre absorbs the moisture, however any greasy or oily spot marks it may resist and correct removal may be very successful.
